2009 Tax Free Shopping - GeorgiaTax Free Shopping Information
Shop and Save During Georgia Tax Free Days

The Georgia Sales Tax Free shopping days will run from Thursday, July 30 through Sunday, August 2, 2009. For four days shoppers can buy school supplies, clothing, footwear and computers without paying the state tax.

From October 1 through October 4, 2009, shoppers can buy water and energy efficient products which cost $1,500 or less. This tax exemption is for noncommercial home or personal use only.

The specific list of exempt items has not been published as of this posting for the 2009 tax days. Here is what was listed for previous years:

  • Articles of Clothing.
    The exemption applies to articles of clothing and footwear with a sales price of $100 or less per item.

  • Personal Computers.
    A single purchase of $1,500 or less of personal computers and/or related accessories is exempt. If the single purchase exceeds $1,500, the entire transaction is taxable.

  • General School Supplies.
    The exemption applies to the purchase of general school supplies with a sales price of $20 or less per item.
