Sharper Image Will Now Honor Gift Cards, But With Conditions

Monday March 10, 2008
Sharper Image announced Friday it will honor previously issued gift cards, but only under the condition that the shopper purchases merchandise equal to twice the current value of the gift card.

From the Sharper Image Website:

"If you have a $25 card, you must purchase at least $50 to be able to use the card. If you have partially used your card before March 7, 2008, you must spend twice the remaining balance."
Customers who do not like the new policy have two other choices:
  • Hold on the gift card and hope for Sharper Image to resume honoring the gift cards without conditions.

  • Take a chance on filing a priority claim in Sharper Image's bankruptcy case, although the company warns, "there is no assurance of payment."
Competitors Offer More Solutions

Another solution Sharper Image didn't include on it's website is the option for customers to spend the gift card at Brookstone, where they can get 25 percent off any purchase, regardless of the card's value.

Plus, for those hoping to spend their gift card on an Ionic Breeze, its competitor PurePro LL will give Sharper Image gift card redeemers $50 toward the price of its air purifier, regardless of the denomination of the card until March 31.
