Circuit City's 24 Minute In-Store Pickup Guarantee

Sunday October 9, 2005
Circuit City has reacted to the popularity of its "in-store pickup" option on online purchases by enhancing the feature further with a guarantee that online purchases will be ready for in-store pickup within 24-minutes. The way the deal works is that your purchase is available for pickup within 24-minutes after you receive an order confirmation email. If it isn't ready, you get a $24 gift card. The benefits for choosing in-store pickup include, no shipping charges and automatically being charged their lowest price for your purchases.

The specifics of the guarantee include:

  • The purchase has to be over $25.00
  • It is for online purchases only.
  • Waiting in line at the store is not included.
  • Purchases made the day after Thanksgiving, and the two days following Christmas, are exempt.
  • Some products may not be included such as, CDs, DVDs, video games, pc games and software.
Visit the Circuit City web site for complete details on this deal.

They didn’t have my order ready when I arrived at the store 30+ minutes after my confirmation. The clerk was very rude and refused to give me the gift card. I asked to speak with the manager and she said “He’ll tell you the same thing, you don’t deserve it.” He claimed the 24 minutes start when you pay the cashier. Makes zero sense as I can walk in the store, pick up the items and check out in way less time than 24 minutes. Had him read the CC website and then he agreed to give it to me. The original cashier then said “What a jerk” as she walked past me into the warehouse area. There are other complaints about this exact issue elsewhere online. It’s a CC scam!

I went to pick up the item at store 30 minutes later. Circuit city did not have the order ready. Lady was about to issue the gift card, but after some talks from her colleague, she denied to issue the gift card. When, I asked to talk to the manager, she said the manager was in a conference call, however, I had seen him on the floor. She told me, the manager will say the same thing, that $24 gift card cannot be issued and that I was just wasting their time. I am no longer buying from circuit city. BEST BUY is the place where i will be purchasing from now onwards.

I also had bad experience with 24/24. On 2007-10-16, around 8:10pm, at Bellevue WA store, after reading the 24/24 rules together with store clerk, he still said the time started when I arrived. Apparently, he had trouble understanding simple written English. Would you trust them with your technology purchases? A few minutes later, warehouse guy came out and said he couldn’t find the item. Now he HAD to give me the $24 gift card. I then walked into the store and took one (that they couldn’t find) from the display shelf and checked out with the gift card I just received. I would never shop at circuitcity again.

Same exact thing happened to me but I waited in line at the store for 40 minutes first. What a nightmare. I will never shop at CC again!

Same problem. The cashier told me the 24 minutes started when she pressed the button on her register. I eventually got the gift card, but only after started getting loud.

I assumed it was just a dumb cashier who didn’t know the rules, but now it seems like it’s the unwritten policy to try and screw people out of the gift cards.
