20 Ways to Cut the Cost of Shopping - Tip #14
Learn the Strategy Behind Product Placement

By Donna L Montaldo, About.com

Grocers take a lot of time to place products throughout the store in order to maximize their profit margins. What does this mean to us? It means that often we are fooled into thinking something is on sale, simply because of where it is merchandised.

For example, the end of the aisles at most food markets are sometimes setup with merchandise that is reduced. Ten of the aisles may hold true to that idea but the other five aisles may contain goods that have high markups. Taking the time to compare prices, no matter where the merchandise is located, will help cut the cost of your shopping trip.
