How To Frame Your Favorite Photographs For Under .25 Cents

By Donna L Montaldo, About.com

This is a cute and inexpensive way to frame your favorite photographs that you have hidden away.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 15 minutes per picture
Here's How:
  1. Purchase a package of blank CD covers, colored paper and matching ribbon.
  2. Select a photo that you want to frame and match up the colored paper that best enhances the photo.
  3. Outline the paper using the CD cover and cut out a nice even square that will fill the inside of the CD just like a CD cover would work.
  4. Lay your picture evenly onto the paper square and trim the picture so that you have 1/8 of an inch of the colored paper showing on each side of the picture.
  5. Put a dab of glue on each corner of the back of the picture and carefully glue the picture to the colored paper so that the sides of the paper are showing evenly around the picture (like matting).
  6. Once the glue is dry, slide the picture and paper into the CD cover and use a sliver of invisible tape to keep the CD closed.
  7. Cut an eight inch piece of ribbon. Measure where the center of the CD is and glue both ends of the ribbon to the back/center of the CD cover. How much ribbon your cut will determine how long the picture will hang.
  8. Once the glue is dry your picture is ready to hang.
Tips:
  1. This is a great way to fill a blank wall in your home office or in your teenager's room. The pictures can be tacked up in an interesting arrangement.
  2. Don't want nail holes all over the wall? A good solution is to hang the frames on a piece of molding nailed up onto a blank wall.
  3. Using black paper with bright colorful dotted ribbons of lime green, turquoise or orange creates a retro look.
  4. Using black and white photographs with contrasting paper and heavy silk ribbon offers a sleek sophisticated look.
  5. If you have family reunions, this is a great way to display the pictures from the previous year’s festivities. You can hang them around your patio area or use them in creative ways as a center piece for a buffet table.
What You Need:
  • Package of blank CD holders.
  • Colored paper that enhances the pictures you wish to frame.
  • Ribbon that will add to the look of the framed picture.
  • Glue
  • Scissors
