Texas has developed into a major shopping destination over the years. It is the second largest state in the US and dedicates a significant portion of its 268,581 square miles to shopping centers.

The Houston Area

In the 1950s, Houston had a reputation for being a city in size, but a country town at heart. But that has certainly changed. Today Houston is the fourth-largest city in the US, with more residents than any other city in the South.

Over 14.8 million people visit Houston each year and enjoy the city's world-class dining, entertainment and fabulous shopping. The shining star is the sprawling Houston Galleria that boasts having over 2.4 million square feet of shopping space and a list of stores that could compete with Rodeo Drive.

Bargain hunters will want to check out the four outlet malls located right outside of the city limits. Starting with the newest outlet center, Houston Premium Outlets, located in northwest Houston, shoppers will find over 140 name-brand outlet stores including Armani Exchange, Burberry, Nike, Kate Spade New York, and Hugo Boss.

Texas City, Texas, is part of the Houston-The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area and it is also home to Tanger Outlets in Houston. It is an attractive open-air outlet center where bargain hunters can spend the day shopping over 75 outlet stores and favorite brands like American Eagle Outfitters, Brooks Brothers Factory Store, Chico's Outlet, Disney Outlet and Puma.

Just 25 miles west of downtown Houston, the Katy Mills Mall is one of the major indoor shopping outlets in Texas. With over 175 stores, shoppers will enjoy prices of up to 60 percent off every day. The list of outlet stores includes H&M, Kate Spade New York, Fossil, Michael Kors, Neiman Marcus Last Call, NIKE Factory Store, Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, and Tommy Hilfiger Company Store.

The Dallas Area

Houston and Dallas have always been competitive, especially when it comes to impressing visitors with fabulous dining options and world-class shopping, but Dallas might be inching ahead. There are more shopping centers per capita in Dallas, which is more than in any other US city. Included in that number are the first-rate outlet malls.

Allen Premium Outlets, located 40 minutes north of Dallas, is a well-known shopping destination for residents and visitors in the Dallas and Ft. Worth area. There are over 100 name-brand designer stores including Michael Kors, Nike Factory Store, and the Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store. An expansion and renovation of the outlet mall, including around 30 new stores, was completed in 2017.

Grapevine Mills is a short two-mile jump from the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. It is an indoor mall that has over 180 stores, several theme-type restaurants like the Rainforest Cafe and fabulous entertainment for everyone including the Sea Life Aquarium and AMC Dine-In Theaters. Popular outlet stores include Neiman Marcus Last Call, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, H&M, Forever 21, NIKE Factory Store, Coach Factory, Ann Taylor Factory Store and Under Armour

Shoppers can take a short 20-minute drive from Dallas/Ft. Worth to Grand Prairie, Texas, and enjoy strolling around the Grand Prairie Premium Outlets. The outlet center has an impressive lineup of designer and name-brand stores including Coach Outlet, Cole Haan Outlet, J.Crew Factory, Kenneth Cole, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, Talbots Outlet, and Tommy Hilfiger.

Austin, Texas

Austin, Texas is a beautiful city that has become a major part of the music industry and has earned the reputation for being the Live Music Capital of the World. Along with live entertainment, it is also a shopper's paradise where visitors can find one-of-kind clothing and accessories from local crafters, while shopping in one of very best outlet malls in the country.

Located 30 minutes from Austin in San Marcos, Texas, outlet shoppers will go wild at the San Marcos Premium Outlets and the San Marcos Tanger Outlets. Between the two outlets, shoppers will have a field day in the 260 outlet stores that are located there.

San Marcos Premium Outlets is the larger of the two outlets. It is home to over 140 luxury and name-brand stores, including some that you rarely see in other outlet malls. Designer outlet stores like Gucci, Prada, Diane Von Furstenberg, Lululemon and Athletica are just a small example of the quality brands that are available.

San Marcos Tanger Outlets is home to over 75 outlet stores with popular name brands like Fossil, H&M, Timberland and the Banana Republic Factory Store.
