Freezing Food - What Foods Can Be Frozen?

By , About.com Guide

Question: Freezing Food - What Foods Can Be Frozen?

What Foods Can Be Frozen?

Answer: Almost any food can be frozen. Exceptions include some canned foods and eggs in shells. With canned foods, once you remove the food from the can, you may freeze it.

But having the capability to freeze food and being satisfied with the results after defrosting are two different things. Some foods simply do not freeze well. Mayonnaise, cream sauce and lettuce will not freeze well. Raw meat and poultry maintain their quality longer than their cooked counterparts because moisture is lost during cooking.
