Have a Picnic and Play Charades

The day would start with us helping our mother prepare the food for our picnic. Sometimes she would take us to a park, but many times we would simply go out into our yard, put down a blanket and dig into the picnic basket. What made the picnic so much fun was that my mother would arrange to have food that was not the norm for lunch, like fried chicken or grilled hamburgers.

After lunch we would play a game, like charades, until we became sleepy. It wasn't unusual for all of us to fall asleep on a warm summer day atop our picnic blanket.
