Have you been spending time working in your yard or have you been thinking about it? Retailers like Ace, Lowe's and Home Depot are relying on it. They have each developed marketing plans and promotions designed to attract homeowners who will be working diligently to improve the appearance of their yards.

Lowe's has an online "Garden Center" which includes all of the popular gardening categories along with additional gardening articles with step-by-step advice and how-to videos. Television ads showing an abundance of flowers and beautiful green lawns have been coupled with planned promotions on its outdoor power equipment.

Competitive prices on lawn equipment, free shipping deals and other perks like a the offer of a free John Deere Dump Cart to customers buying the John Deere riding mowers (offer ends April 17) is all part of the strategy being used to attract customers.

For outside living, Lowe's is offering free shipping on patio sets ($399 and more) and grills, along with free grill assembly and haul away. Shoppers can also enter for a chance to win a Husqvarna All-Wheel Drive Walk Mower or a 2nd Generation Nest Thermostat.

Home Depot

Home Depot is giving shoppers $5 off their next garden purchase when they join the Home Depot Garden Club. Visitors to the Home Depot website will also find more how-to videos centered on weekend projects including instructions on building a paver path, building a vertical garden and building a raised garden bed. Want chickens in your backyard? Home Depot has a video explaining what you will need.

Like Lowes, Home Depot is also offering free delivery on patio sets priced $399 or more and will assemble store-stocked grills free of charge.

In lawn equipment, Home Depot has several marked as having a "New Lower Price" on select self-propelled gas lawn mowers and riding mowers. You can pick up a Briggs and Stratton self propelled, 22-inch gas mower for under $250, and get free shipping. Need a trimmer? Home Depot has the Ryobi One+ 18-Volt Lithium-ion Cordless Electric String Trimmer and Edger (5 1/2 star rating) for $79.97.

If you are headed to Ace you can look for store events and advertising such as "Get Your April Back" and "Show Your Lawn Some Love" filled with instant savings and red-hot buys on gardening supplies, lawn care products and gardening tools. Shoppers can find deals like a wheelbarrow for $39.99 and a cedar raised garden kit for just $29.99.

Finding the Best Price

Lowes, Home Depot and Ace all have weekly local ads available for viewing online. Before you head out to go shopping check out the ads and online promotions and compare prices, delivery fees and warranties in order to get the best overall deal.
