Target shoppers now have an additional avenue for getting coupons with the introduction of Target's mobile coupon program.Target is the first national retailer to offer a scannable mobile coupon program that allows shoppers to receive exclusive offers directly on their mobile phones. Coupons are redeemed by scanning a barcode on the phone at checkout.
Shoppers can opt-in to the program on their PC at Target.com/mobile, on their phone at m.target.com or by texting COUPONS to 827438 (TARGET). After opt-in, they will receive a text message with a link to a mobile Web page that contains multiple offers, all accessible through a single barcode. Offers are single use and expire on the date listed. The coupons will be updated once a month and cannot be used online at Target.com.
Target's point-of-sale scanning technology makes mobile coupons possible, and Target is the first major retailer with the ability to scan mobile barcodes in all of its stores. In addition to using the new mobile coupons, Target shoppers can access their Target Mobile GiftCards, view online assortments, check product availability and store locations, manage their Target gift registry and lists, browse the weekly ad, and receive text and e-mail notifications of great deals - all via their mobile phones.
"At Target, we know that mobile phones are an integral part of our guests' lives, and mobile coupons are just another way we're providing convenient, on-the-go shopping solutions," said Steve Eastman, president of Target.com.

Well, I came here for advice to help me save money. But I just cannot go this route. Sounds tantamount to receiving the mark o’ ye old beast to me (Happy St. Patty’s!). Call me old fashioned if you must, but I’m afraid of texting, any kind of multi-media messages to or from my phone and surgically-implated microchips. I like to clip my coupons the old fashioned way folks, from the newspaper. Even these online coupon sites scare me with the required software download. All the savings I forego there, I recoup in a lower cell phone bill. Live frugally people, learn from my mistakes! I live in a part of the country where I do not require central air or heat. Money in the bank.
Me too! Have scissors, will clip!
I love the internet coupons. It’s just finding stores that will take them that can be the challenge. But as far as mobile coupons — I’m not there yet either. I’m sure I’ll probably adapt, but there is just something about cutting and organizing coupons that you can’t beat. It’s relaxing.
Getting my coupons and setting out for the supermarket is a wonderful venture for me. Everyoen has their own way of saving but I just love the look when I can do a huge order and spend only ten dollars. Instead of reading magazines I clip coupons while sitting on the couch with my husband at night. Although I can use the computer I really am ‘technically challlenged’. Doesn’t matter though, I still save ooooooodles of money with my handy scissors. Are they magic or what!?!?!?!?!?
For the braver souls, there’s actually an entire phone app called Yowza that is all about saving money and finding local deals. It’s completely free, and was thought of by a guy who got tired of always forgetting his Bed Bath and Beyond flyer coupon at home.
Ditto – I’m old-fashioned and will continue to do it the old-fashioned way. Will watch to see if there are any horror stories regarding take-over of cell phones, etc.
Well, I ordered some coupons from ebay. Never receivedv them and did get charged for them tho.
Now, I can’t get a refund.
If you go to Wal*Mart instead of Target, you will save the same amount anyway without the bother of the cell phone coupons because Target is a HUGE ripoff!!
This sounds cool! But are the Targets really going to except them, cuz I had problems with them not excepting printed out coupons from their own store.
I would like to bet that the majority of people that sign up for this website do not have the capability for “phone apps” because we, the frugal ones, are not going to spend the money to have that type of phone or pay the monthly fee to have internet access on a cell phone. This article was useless to me. If I’m wrong in my prediction, feel free to call me out on it.

Later on in the article it says the coupons cannot be used at Target. I assume this must be a mistake since it is first stated that Target is the first major retailer to be able to scan online coupons at all store locations and then says they cannot be used at Target.
Hi Robert,
You missed the .com part. The mobile coupons cannot be used online at Target.com. But thanks for pointing it out. I’ll add ‘online’ to it.
