WalMart Drops More Prices On Toys
Monday November 2, 2009
As in its usual fashion during the holiday season, WalMart has announced a second round of reductions on toys. Taking the position once again that it plans to be the price leader over the next eight weeks, WalMart cut the prices of 100 top selling toys, in addition to the price cuts in September.
The price reductions will be good until December 25, 2009, or while supplies last.
With the economic downturn as no surprise to WalMart merchandise planners, the current markdowns have been part of an overall plan and should not have an effect on the company's profitability.
However, with this being the second year that WalMart takes such aggressive pricing on its toys early into the holiday season, more shoppers will wait next year for the same type of promotions before buying.
As for the competition, after last year's holiday price reductions, any retailer who did not plan for it this year may run into a loss in profits if they plan to match competitor's prices.
