Piggy Banks Growing in Popularity

As confidence in the country's financial institutions waver, more people are simplifying their savings plans by investing in piggy banks. Sales for piggy banks and private safes were up over the holiday season, indicating that many people want hands-on control of their money.

With people scaling down their spending and socking away their pennies, the rebirth of the piggy bank seems to fit in line with the return of frugal mindsets.

The Proverbial Under the Mattress?

Amazon.com also reported sales in private safes have jumped significantly. Reports say that sales of safes jumped from number 2,755 to 260 in rank. Of course with the increase in home safes comes the need to increase home security - an additional cost some may have not considered.

Piggy banks are cool, but I'll forever turn to a big jar to toss my life savings of spare change into for safe keeping. Maybe this year I'll paste a picture of a pig on a few on them, just to stay in style.
