The short answer is in the long run, yes you can save a significant amount by stocking up when items that your family eats regularly when the prices are low as well as save by buying in bulk and cutting down on shopping trips.
Apparently more people are making the decision to buy a home freezer as higher gas prices and other costs have put pressure on the family budget.
According to a report from AP business writer Ashley M. Heher, bought more than 1.1 million freezers in the U.S. during the first six months of 2008, spending nearly $400 million for freezers of all shapes and sizes.
While the sales of other home appliances have decreased by eight percent during the same period, sales of freezers have increased seven percent, a trend experts expect to see continue through 2009. Generally, when times get tough, the sales of freezers increase.
"Freezers tend to be countercyclical, meaning that they generally do better when the economy is soft because people go out less and buy groceries in bulk," said Home Depot spokesperson Paula Drake.
Because freezers are designed more simply compared to most refrigerators on the market today, with all of their bells and buzzers, they cost much less than the average 'fridge.
