The company answered those questions today and have come up with incentives which are a lot different than promotions being offered from other retailers.
Wal-Mart will give shoppers the freedom to spend their dollars on what they and their families need and focus its efforts on a package of rollbacks that deliver immediate value. This is different than other retailers that are willing to only give a discount if shoppers who commit part of their tax rebate check to the store. "We’re looking at this through the eyes of our customers, who need low prices all the time," said John Fleming, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, Wal-Mart Stores, U.S. "And that’s what we’ve always done best," he added. To coincide with the distribution of economic stimulus checks, Wal-Mart will be offering rollbacks on a variety of products including key grocery and consumable items such as sports drinks, breakfast juice, lunch meat and cereal as well as personal products including shampoo. No purchase will be necessary to cash the check for free at any Wal-Mart customer service desk or MoneyCenter.
