Coupon Clippers Fight Back

Monday January 29, 2007
Upset shoppers at the Giant Eagle grocery store in Canton, Ohio, are calling for a boycott after the store ended its double coupon program. According to the report, more than 800 loyal coupon clippers and other regular Giant Eagle shoppers plan to fight the store's decision to stop doubling the face value of coupons.

Regular shoppers who used the double-coupon program as a way to budget the cost of feeding their families are concerned the end of the double-coupon program will mean less disposable income.

A double whammy to Canton shoppers came after the company's announcement that the double coupon program will continue in Akron, Cleveland and Toledo, making this a regional decision and not company wide.

A representative of Giant Eagle told NewsNet5.com, "We continuously adjust the promotional mix in our retail locations within geographic markets based on many factors, including customer feedback and competitive offerings. As such, we have to make the determination to discontinue double coupons in the Canton market."

I live in this area and have e-mailed them to get some answers. I loved the double coupons. I wish more stores would offer this. I will probably not buy as much at Giant Eagle now.
