PayPal Plans to Offer Holiday Rebates

PayPal, an eBay Company which allows any individual or business with an email address to send and receive payments online, announced it will launch promotional incentive programs valued at up to $100 million. As part of these incentives, PayPal customers will be eligible to receive cash rebate offers up to $20 when paying with PayPal on qualifying merchant Web sites in North America, including eBay.com.

Additionally, consumers will find free shipping offers, just in time for the busy holiday season.

"We're offering these incentives to reward our loyal buyers with even more reasons to use PayPal, which in turn, delivers even more shoppers and sales to our merchants this season," said Dana Stalder, senior vice president of marketing and business operations for PayPal Inc.

Cash rebate programs will be available to consumers from November 23, 2006, through May 15, 2007. Free shipping promotions will be available beginning November 23, 2006. Merchants participating in the rebate incentives include Cooking.com, Starbucks, Walgreens.com and Buy.com along with eBay.

The new promotion is being viewed as a step to compete with Google's new payment system, Google Checkout, that launched in June 2006.
