According to industry experts, dollar stores are expected to be one of the fastest-growing retail formats in the next decade. Traditionally, dollar stores have been no frills stores located in shopping centers and free- standing buildings, but now, Mervyn's is the first mid-level department store to have its very own $1 to $5 Shop located inside all stores, making it easier than ever to find bargains.
The $1 to $5 Shop at Mervyn's includes an eclectic mix of merchandise including an assortment of toys, jewelry, accessories, barware, and novelty gifts grouped by price point ($1, $2, $3, $4, or $5). Merchandise is presented in bins and on shelves, and is located in the center section of all 266 Mervyn's stores.

The merchandise in Mervyn's $1 to $5 Shop continually evolves to reflect seasonal trends and holidays while offering guests fresh, new merchandise every time they visit the store. Throughout the course of the year, guests might be surprised to find items such as a mini disco ball, ocean water squirter, or incense set in the $1 to $5 Shop.
